William Henry

1857 1941

William Henry Mitchenall was born on 7th January 1857 in Edenbridge, Kent. He was the younger brother of Elizabeth Ann, child of John and Ann, grandson of William.

He lived in Edenbridge until 1871, (census confirms), married in Tunbridge Wells in 1888 to Ada Martha Morris from West Haddon, Northamptonshire. In 1881 she lives in Tunbridge Wells as an apprentice Milliner, aged 16. Her parents were in Maidstone in 1861.

In 1891 William Henry is at 6 Market Place, Wood Street, Walthamstow, working as a Grocer. Ada is not at this address in Walthamstow, but the four boys born to them were all born in Walthamstow (Edward 1889, William 1892, Walter 1896 and Harold (1903).

The 1901 census records William and Ada living with their three sons at 117 Wood Street. William is an independent Grocer.

He continued to live in 117 Wood Street for the rest of his life, He was predeceased by son William Ernest, who died in the First World War, 

When he died on 11th February 1941 he left £3509 18s 6d to his sons Edward and Walter.

Ada died shortly after on the 22nd February 1944 , days after her son Walter (19th January 1944). Both left their estates to Edward John Mitchenall, a total of about £1900. 

Of the four sons, only Harold married but there were no grandchildren.

There are no (known) living relatives descended from William Henry Mitchenall
