Ellen

1858 to 1922 

Ellen was born in Chilham, but was shortly living in Westerham.

The eldest child living at home, she is recorded as young as 13 living with her grandparents rather than her parents. In the 1871 and 1881 surveys she is in Charlwood. The first records her as a student, the second a dressmaker.

 

By the next survey, in 1891, she had married (1890) Thomas Tyler, in Bedford, but by the survey in 1891 Thomas was an Engine Driver in Tunbridge Wells; Ellen is undesignated. In 1901 he is again a Railway Engine Driver, and one Lilian Thorns lives with them (attending school.

Ellen and Thomas had no children I have recorded, and she died in East Grinstead in 1922.
